What Caply stores on your device

Caply uses Chrome's own storage (chrome.storage) to remember your settings, and nothing else:

These stay on your device and, for synced settings, in your own Google account through Chrome Sync. We never receive them. There is no Caply server. Caply does not track your browsing history and does not store what you watch.

Subtitles

Caply reads the subtitle data that Netflix and YouTube already deliver to your browser, so it can show each line at the right moment. This happens in your browser. To display subtitles, nothing is sent anywhere.

Translation

Translation is on by default, into your browser's language, so Caply works from the first second. It shows in Dual, during Replay (R), and in Immersion when you pause or mute.

While it is on, Caply sends subtitle text to a translation service and gets the translation back:

What is sent: the line on screen, plus the lines coming in roughly the next 60 seconds, so the translation is ready when the line appears. Caply never sends the whole subtitle track of a video at once, and sends nothing while playback is paused.

Only the caption text is sent. No personal data, no account and no identifier is attached. Set translation to None in Settings, under Languages, and no subtitle text ever leaves your browser.

Caply takes no payment today: everything it does is free. A paid option, Caply Pro, is planned. When it arrives, payment will go through a payment provider, Caply itself will still hold no account and no card, and this page will say exactly what the provider receives before anything is sold.
